Associate Professor Katherine Hubbard and alumna Carrie Schneider have been named as 2024 Guggenheim Fellows. The fellowship, awarded to scholars and creators in various fields, has been granted to 188 American and Canadian individuals this year.

Hubbard, whose art practice involves photography, writing, and performance, will receive support for her project "One Fifty One," which explores the relationship between analog photography and the human body. The project, created in collaboration with her mother who was diagnosed with dementia and LATE in 2022, aims to reexamine sociopolitical histories and narratives through photography. Charlie White, head of CMU's school of art, praised Hubbard's work, stating, "Her work in 'One Fifty One' develops beyond the surface image to examine physical and emotional intimacy and the complexity of human relationships."

Schneider, a CMU alumna with a background in fine arts and psychology, expressed her gratitude for being selected as a Guggenheim Fellow in the Fine Arts category. She has presented her work at various prestigious institutions and received accolades such as a Creative Capital Award and a Fulbright Fellowship. Schneider shared her enthusiasm for the fellowship, stating, "I'm thrilled and humbled, and I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time in the studio this year."

The Guggenheim Fellowship, which provides generous funding for ambitious projects, has a long-standing history of supporting talented individuals across different disciplines. The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has granted over $400 million in fellowships to more than 19,000 individuals since its establishment in 1925.
